Snowmobiling in Quebec: Our Winter Adventure in the Laurentians

If you’re like me, you’ve probably already started making a list of things to enjoy across the province during winter. If you love snow, don’t miss this series of ideas from the blog, starting with a snowmobile ride.

I know I’m starting right away with adrenaline in my veins, but don’t worry, I’ll also bring my experiences in other activities where you don’t necessarily need to be an ice athlete to face it.

Snowmobiling in the Laurentians

When: Generally between January and February (but may vary). If the tour includes crossing rivers and lakes, it is important that the freezing level is safe, so the colder the better.

Where: There are a hundred snowmobile trails throughout Quebec waiting for you, along with a bunch of companies selling adventure packages that can help with rentals and instructions.

What was included in the package 

• A qualified guide throughout the route;
• Gasoline;
• A small training on how the machine works provided by the guide;
• Equipment for the driver and passenger: Helmets, gloves, boots and overalls;
• A balaclava is mandatory and is not included. You can bring your own or buy one on-site for CAD 10.
• The snowmobiles have comfortable seats and heated handlebars, which makes a real difference in the cold.

What was the itinerary like? It was an approximately three-hour guided tour through the Laurentians. Each group had around seven snowmobiles carrying up to two people each, plus the guide. Depending on the route and weather, you may ride across frozen lakes.

How ​​much does it cost: 270$CAD / 600ace engine (option of 900ace + 34$) for 1 person and 348$CAD / 600ace engine (if 900ace is + 17$CAD per person) for 2 people. (Prices may change without prior notice, so it’s always a good idea to check on the website or by phone)

What you need to know before hiring

• You must be over 21 years old;
• Have a valid driver’s license;
• A security deposit is also required. For our 600 ACE snowmobile, the deductible authorization was CAD 2,000 on the main driver’s credit card. Check your available credit before leaving home, because the card must be in the driver’s name.

Why you should do it

Seriously, what a tour! It was one of the most exciting adventures of my life. The scenery was spectacular, and handling a snowmobile was genuinely challenging for us. The guide said motorcycle experience helps, which neither of us had. Even so, taking it slowly and respecting the machine made the experience manageable and unforgettable.
