How the PSTQ score works
The PSTQ replaced the former skilled worker program and uses a 1,400-point grid split into three blocks: human capital (520), response to Quebec labour market needs (700) and adaptation factors (180). This score decides who Arrima invites to apply for permanent selection.
Two things surprise Express Entry candidates: English earns no points, and French is worth a lot — up to 50 points per ability. On top of that, the labour market diagnosis for your occupation can be worth up to 120 points, and living or working outside Greater Montreal adds points.
Frequently asked questions
Does this score guarantee an invitation?
No. Invitations depend on the stream (volet), your occupation, the labour market diagnosis and how other candidates score in that round. The calculator only shows your grid score.
How do I know my French level on the Quebec scale?
The scale runs from 1 to 12. If you took TEF, TCF, TEFAQ, DELF or DALF, MIFI publishes correspondence tables between test scores and levels. When unsure, enter the more conservative level.
What is the labour market diagnosis?
It is MIFI’s assessment of demand for each of the 516 NOC occupations. Occupations in deficit are worth up to 120 points; balanced ones at most 25. MIFI publishes the list.
Does English really earn nothing?
Correct. The official MIFI document states that no points are currently awarded for English. Effort should go into French.
